At the consortium meeting at Labman’s premises in Stokesley, England, in May 2026, the project partners got their first look at the proof-of-concept prototype of the PoCCardio point-of-care instrument for identifying heart patients at high risk of further cardiovascular events.

Labman presented both the inside and outside of this major project achievement, demonstrating cartridge management, assay execution and readout, including a few surprising and innovative functionalities that have simplified the instrument and improved usability. These include seamless construction to aid cleanability and a simple means of sterile liquid handling. Inside, a distributed processing architecture ensures a responsive interaction between the component systems.

The main focus now is on producing four additional prototypes for distribution to the selected clinical study centres in Austria, Germany and Poland for proof-of-concept testing and validation. At a later stage, a usability study will be carried out as part of the clinical trial.
